Changes

With coming home from VMworld, I got inspired to finally do what I have meant to do for awhile — separate my eclectic blog.  I have seen the problem for awhile that while my URL for this blog features network administration and virtualization the actual blog does not.  It used to until my Youtube career or . . . → Read More: Changes

On the clock again – VMware Enterprise Administration Exam scheduled

In a quest to prove I am never busy enough, I am “on the clock” for taking the VMware Enterprise Administration Exam on June 9th in Chicago, IL. Ever since getting my VCP in 2.x days, that certification and technology has been probably one of my keenest areas to stay versed and up to date. 70-646 Beta and Other certification happenings!

As I have written in the past, I took 71-643 beta exam in December. At the time, I thought it was a beast of an exam, and after the exam during the comments section, I put down what I thought about the exam. I recorded items like that I believe virtualization products should have . . . → Read More: 70-646 Beta and Other certification happenings!

Took 71-643 – what a beast!

Just took the 71-643 beta yesterday, it is a beast of sorts. My prep was the virtual lab sessions and installing 2008 Terminal Services (playing with RemoteApps – although RC1 broke it by requiring SP1 on Vista), installing WDS, and looking at the differences in IIS7. I obviously was not as well prepared as I should . . . → Read More: Took 71-643 – what a beast!

70-648 Beta Passed! Thoughts from a certified cert addict…

I took 71-648 exam on August 3 primarily just to get a heads-up on what the upcoming exams would look like (simulations, type of questions, etc.). In retrospect, one with MCSE in 2003 should only need to take 70-649, but that wasn’t explicitly clear to me when I took the exam. My plan was to take . . . → Read More: 70-648 Beta Passed! 70-620 – Passed (Did I really need to know about RSS?)

Not being one to endure patiently waiting for test day to arrive, I passed the 70-620 exam with 930 yesterday, and in retrospect, I am still wondering why I took the exam. My original reasoning was I wanted to learn Vista better if only for home or myself since work probably won’t be deploying it for . . . → Read More: 70-620 – Passed (Did I really need to know about RSS?)

VCP310 – VMware VI3 VCP — I am officially on the clock

Well I admitting defeat on getting my MCTS with 70-431. The benefit of learning that skill set just wasn’t where I wanted to be in my career. There were certainly good knowledge to be had, but too much of it was not DBA knowledge in my experience but DB developer knowledge. I am therefore backing away . . . → Read More: VCP310 – VMware VI3 VCP — I am officially on the clock

Prepping for 70-431 – Tougher than I thought…

I have taken lots of certification exams (as the listing of certifications on my resume indicates). 70-431 has me concerned though. Being primarily an O.S. and directory services guy, this test is a stretch for me. I figured I knew 2000 from an “Implementation and Maintenance” perspective, but the focus of this exam (from the reports . . . → Read More: Prepping for 70-431 – Tougher than I thought…

On the clock again, 70-431

Coming out of TechEd ’06, I got motivated again to update my current certification list to include, MCTS – Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist. I am going to take 70-431: Microsoft SQL Server 2005-Implementation and Maintenance exam. This exam, albeit an entry-level exam, is a bit of push for me, but I am looking for a challenge. . . . → Read More: On the clock again, 70-431

Newest VCP

I decided I couldn’t wait or study any more than I have recently. The study material was the aforementioned VMware ESX Advanced Technical Guide, RTFM VMware study material, and the new Virtual infrastructure Class, my coworker took last week in Des Moines. (I had taken the class in January 2004 on ESX 2.0.1) . . . → Read More: Newest VCP
