Windows 2000 SP4 Rollup patch = BSOD Generator?

I have applied this patch to three different machines, including one fresh build Windows 2000 SP4 device and consistently get a Blue Screen after the first reboot. The subject of the BSOD is “Stop 0x000001E” “Address 804A6467 base at 80400000, DateStamp 427b58bb – ntoskrnl.exe.” I went browsing a saw more people where having the same issue. The fix is relatively an easy one. From the Microsoft KB article, “If you received this error message, start the recovery console from any Windows setup CD. Then, copy the Scsiport.sys file from the $NtUpdateRollupPackUninstall$ Update Rollup backup directory to the %systemroot%\system32\drivers directory. Restart the computer after you copy the file.” This procedure fixed our machines. It looks like Microsoft should have tested this one more before release.

From the same KB article, “If you use one of these controllers (older non-Plug-and-Play ISA, EISA, or Micro Channel Architecture (MCA) SCSI controller, which I didn’t have) and have not already installed Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4, we recommend that you do not install the update. We are preparing a hotfix to prevent this problem.”
