Atkins Induction Video: Acceptable Foods List — The Good, The Bad, and the Pork Rinds

In this video, I detail the Acceptable Foods for Atkins Induction and Extended Induction phase and personal advice on how to have a successful Induction phase. When I first started this Way of Eating, I’ll admit I took the role of veggies lightly. I was lucky to eat even 2 cups of vegetables per day. I was going more toward a carnivore diet than doing a good representation of the Atkins Diet. The good news is that with time and experimentation I tried new recipes, such as faux mashed potatoes, and some old ones, like fried cabbage. I discovered that my tastes had indeed changed, and even though all the new recipes did not turn out (Turnip fries, ugh), a lot of them did. For the ones that did, they instantly became new staples in the diet.

Additionally during Induction, I would encourage the new Inductee to learn new ways to cook old favorites. It might be as simple changing breading on your fried chicken to using grated Parmesan cheese. Another one of these conversions is Ziploc low carb ice cream. Low carb conversions is great way to convince yourself that you are not being deprived. to Learning new comfort foods is one of the main steps. The low carb recipe sites play a key role in achieving this goal. Here are a few of my favorite:
Linda’s Low Carb
ADBB Atkins Recipes
Low Carb Luxury Recipes

Stay tuned for the next episode where I enter the kitchen and demonstrate one of new low carb comfort foods or quick snack ideas, the infamous mock danish.

I have a question about the mock danish…
would this be allowed during the induction stage of Atkins.
    I’m new at this! Thanks!

  • Absolutely, all the ingredients (eggs, cream cheese, butter, splenda — count against sweetener count, vanilla-spice, cinnamon-spice) are Induction friendly. It’s a great snack to have in a pinch.

  • Yes, Water Chestnuts are on the one cup per day (Other veggie) list for Induction. See this list for the acceptable foods:
