Professional experience

March 2003 – present       Farm Bureau Financial Services          West Des Moines, IA

Senior Network Administrator

Served as lead network administrator for both Netware and Windows server teams to manage 300 Windows servers and 65 Netware servers across 10 states and 600 sites.  I was third level technical support for user support and server issues on 24x7 rotational basis.  I was often consulted by other administrators and engineers to resolve difficult troubleshooting issues.

Example Projects

  • Designed and implemented NT 4 to Active Directory upgrade project, which involved an upgrade to Netware 6.5, migration to Nsure Identity Manager 2 synchronization technology, and implementing password synchronization between distributed directory services.  Created the ESX test environment and plans, and handled communication with the business units.  The project also included the upgrade of multiple mission critical NT4 member servers using ESX server and P2V to prevent downtime and production outage.
  • Designed and administrated server consolidation program through use of VMware ESX server and VMware VirtualCenter.  I wrote the strategy document, created the proof of concept, and initially administrated production environment while providing documentation and training to other server team members.
  • Served as technical lead for the following high impact projects – enterprise Accounting and General Ledger program, replacement of enterprise HR and payroll system, enterprise backup and disaster recovery replacement, and the creation of multiple high availability enterprise application (imaging, database, and agent repetitive pay system).
  • Designed, implemented, and documented an automated server rollout process to standardize server builds across engineers and eliminate the differentiation across server builds.  This process eliminated much of the difficulty and wasted time in server and application troubleshooting in the server lifecycle.

Security Administrator (March 2003 – January 2004)

Designed and implemented distributed 350 server environment and 2000 distributed user accounts.  I was the liaison to internal and external auditors.  I designed the gold security templates for Windows 2000 and 2003 servers for risk mitigation for internal and extranet servers and created the policy for server vulnerability by which all servers were scanned and remediate for their vulnerabilities.   I created patch implementation policy and chaired the monthly patch review meeting.
